Capturing Reality – Young People’s Self-Expression in Creative Documentaries

03/23 in Audiovisual Training, Learning by Doing, youth media training

This March the city of Thessaloniki and the community of the deaf was witness to one of the most unique youth events ever organised in the city. On March 20, Saturday, the police closed down the party and open event at 2.00 a.m at the Deaf Association. From 10 to 2 deaf and hearing people from 6 countries watched creative documentaries made by 24 young Europeans following an intensive 6-day media exchange, heard about the Youth in Action programme, shared their experiences about cooperation between deaf and hearing communities and youth, and danced to the music of a dj from the deaf community.

The youth exchange had 2 deaf and 3 hearing Greek participants, 5 Italians from Napoli, 5 Estonians, 5 Romanians and 5 Slovenians who for the first time in their life worked in a nonfiction media production in order to express their feelings, observations and messages about the city of Thessaloniki and Greek culture.

“Capturing Reality” was funded by the European Commission’s Youth in Action programme, Action 1.1 – Multilateral Youth Exchanges, with the Institute for Youth as responsible coordinating institution.
